The Modesto
Community Concert Association YOUNG ARTIST CONCERTS began in 1995 with the establishment of the Carl Waggoner Memorial Fund.
Carl was a member of our board at the time of his death, and he cared deeply about young musical talent. His memorial fund
sponsored our Young Artist Concerts until 2001. During these years the concerts featured one or two talented high school
seniors who showed great promise for musical careers.

Three years ago we changed the format of these programs to include young classically
trained musicians of all ages who have been critiqued by judges and awarded the highest rating at the Annual Solo and Ensemble
Festival held each spring. Each solo and ensemble has been rated on preparation, intonation, technique, musical interpretation,
eye contact and stage presence--all of the musical values that need to be encouraged and nurtured as the young musicians grow
and mature. The highest award is called a Command Performance.
|
|
All of the Command Performance winners are invited to perform at the MCCA Young
Artist Concert, and nearly all are able to accept. Last year we featured 17 soloists and small ensembles. Their
performances were enthusiastically received by our audience.
